How Can We Help?
The Post Prayer Step of 5 Step Prayer Model – Randy Clark
The “Post Prayer Suggestion” step in the 5-step prayer model involves providing guidance and advice to the person after prayer has been administered. This step is crucial for reinforcing the healing or change and addressing any doubts or questions that may arise.
Here’s how the “Post Prayer Suggestion” step is described by Randy Clark, along with examples:
- If healed, encourage them to testify: If the person is healed, they should be encouraged to tell others about their healing. Testifying to what has happened is the best way to keep the healing.
- For example, if a person’s pain is gone, they should testify to that fact, even if they have not yet been to a doctor to verify their healing.
- If partially healed, encourage them to be thankful and ask for more: If the person is not fully healed, they should be encouraged to thank God for the improvement they have experienced and continue to ask for more healing.
- If nothing happened, avoid discouraging statements: If nothing happened during the prayer, there are two things the minister should never say:
- Never tell the person they didn’t get healed because they didn’t have enough faith. This can solidify a person’s sense of not having enough faith and serve the opposite purpose.
- Never tell the person they didn’t get healed because they have sin in their life. To accuse them in condemnation is not the way of God.
- Even if either of these statements are true, they should not be said.
- Instead, encourage them: Instead of discouraging statements, the minister should encourage them by:
- Sharing personal stories: Share stories of how they have seen people get healed later, even after they did not get healed during the first prayer.
- Giving them “prescriptions”: Suggest specific Bible verses for them to read and meditate on. Randy provides an example of giving someone verses and a book about healing to read before returning for more prayer1…. The minister can also suggest listening to a teaching that would encourage them.
- Be like the Holy Spirit: The minister should come beneath the person to lift them up, help them and strengthen them, just as the Holy Spirit does.
- Address afflicting spirits: If the person was healed of something connected to an afflicting spirit, they need to be aware that it may try to come back.
- They need to be taught that they have the authority as a believer to resist it.
- If they are not aware of this, they may move from faith into doubt when symptoms return.
Lessons Learned During the “Post Prayer Suggestion” Step:
- Importance of Testimony: Testifying about healing is crucial for maintaining the healing and encouraging others.
- Avoid Condemnation: The minister should never condemn or accuse the person, as this is not the way of God.
- Focus on Faith Building: The emphasis should be on building the person’s faith and hope rather than focusing on any perceived failures.
- The Power of Encouragement: Encouragement and positive reinforcement are essential to the healing process.
- Teach about Authority: If the healing involved an afflicting spirit, it is important to teach the person about the authority they have as a believer to resist the spirit.
- It is not about the minister: The minister’s role is not about demonstrating their own faith or power, but about helping the person receive healing.
- Treat each other nicely: The church should treat each other with kindness, and not pick on each other.
