Stories of the occult in the church body

Ken Fish shares several stories to illustrate how people, including those within the church, are often ignorant of their involvement in the occult. These stories emphasize that occult practices are not always obvious and can infiltrate people’s lives, sometimes even under the guise of seemingly harmless or even spiritual activities.

  • The Woman Who Drank a Potion: Fish tells the story of a Chinese woman in his church who, after a divorce, sought a new husband. She went to an herbalist in Chinatown who gave her a potion, instructing her to ensure that the first thing her intended saw after drinking it was herself, otherwise he would fall in love with whatever else he saw. Instead, she decided to try it herself and looked in the mirror after drinking it, falling in love with her own reflection, and subsequently losing her mind. When she came to church, the congregation was confused, but Fish immediately identified the source of her issue as occultic activity. He points out how she thought this was a normal activity for Christians, illustrating a lack of awareness about the dangers of the occult. See minutes [56:53-1:00:16]
  • The Huntington Beach Presbyterian Church Elder: In this story, Fish describes how he was invited to minister to the leadership team of a Presbyterian church in Huntington Beach, California. During the meeting, an elder in the church confessed that for 30 years, she had been regularly going to an astrologer and soothsayer just two blocks from the church. Fish then says to the pastor, “You want to know why your church hasn’t grown?” implying that such occultic practices hindered the church’s spiritual health. This shows how deeply entrenched occult practices can be, even among church leaders, and how it can be a spiritual blockage. See minutes [1:01:29-1:02:32].
  • The Ayahuasca Retreat: Fish recounts a situation where he was ministering to a well-known church in California during the COVID-19 pandemic. He discovered that many of the lay leaders had traveled to Costa Rica and Colombia to participate in Ayahuasca retreats in pursuit of prophetic experiences. Ayahuasca is a powerful hallucinogen that people use to open their “third eye”. He notes that these leaders were seeking spiritual experiences through occult practices, demonstrating a misunderstanding of true spiritual discernment and a willingness to engage in practices explicitly forbidden in the Old Testament. He had to cast demons out of about 25 of the leaders who got involved in Ayahuasca. See minutes [1:03:33-1:06:18].
  • Yoga: Fish states that yoga is the worship of Hindu gods, with its postures designed to connect with the “cosmic consciousness”, or demonic realm. He says that some Christians, including those in Nashville, will defend yoga as just a form of exercise, but he says that they are uniting their bodies with a demon, which Paul calls “spiritual whoredom”. He notes that people who get into yoga for physical benefits end up worse because it is a spiritual counterfeit. He shares that he has had to cast out Kundalini spirits (a Hindu deity) from people who practiced yoga, noting that these spirits accumulate in the neck area. • Reiki: Fish discusses Reiki, a practice that channels energy for healing, and how it is often practiced by Christians who are ignorant of its occultic origins. He shares a story of a woman who received Reiki from a Christian practitioner and subsequently experienced severe pain down her left side. Fish explains that Reiki channels evil spirits and that Christians are often naïve about the occult. He then commanded the spirit to leave her body. This demonstrates how seemingly harmless healing practices can open people up to demonic influence. See minutes [1:08:37-1:10:46]

These stories highlight a recurring theme: many Christians are unknowingly engaging in occult practices due to a lack of understanding of the spiritual realm and a failure to adhere to Biblical guidelines.
