Interview step of 5 step Prayer Model. Randy Clark

The interview step in the 5-step prayer model is designed to be personal, with the goal of showing love and honor to the person being ministered to. The interviewer should not focus on their own need to tell a story, but rather on treating the person with respect, as Jesus would. The goal is to find the root cause of the sickness or condition. ere are some key elements and examples of questions from the interview step.

  • Personal Information: Start by asking for the person’s first name, especially in settings where you might not know them, such as crusades or ministry events
  • Duration of the Condition: Inquire about how long the person has had the condition.
  • Recent Trauma: Ask about any trauma in their life, particularly within the last year. It is noted that traumas from farther back can be relevant, but recent events are more often the cause.
  • Medical History: Ask for the doctor’s diagnosis, if any, and if the condition runs in the family.
  • Listen to the body: Ask the person to pay attention to their body and report any sensations such as heat, energy, or changes in their condition while being prayed for. This can be key to understanding the nature of the condition.
    • Changes can indicate an afflicting spirit and help to discern how to pray.
    • Even if a person feels nothing, they may still be healed.
  • Keys to the Root Cause: The interviewer is looking for clues that can indicate the root cause of the sickness, as the symptoms may be coming from a different source.
    • The goal is to avoid simply addressing the symptoms, as they may return if the root cause is not addressed

Lessons Learned During the Interview:

  • Honor: The way the interviewer ministers to the person is very important. The goal is to model a culture of honor, as this is believed to draw the presence of God.
  • Love and Respect: It is important to treat the person with love and respect, just as Jesus would, and not like “cattle in a chute.
  • Focus on the Person: The focus should always be on loving the individual and not on the minister’s desire to have a story to tell.
  • Pray with Eyes Open: Praying with eyes open allows the minister to see how the person’s body reacts to the prayer, providing additional clues about the condition.
  • Interrupting Prayer: Encourage the person to interrupt the prayer if they feel something happening, as this can provide immediate feedback on what is occurring.
