Engaging with high level demons
Ken Fish, in his presentation “Occult Spiritual Warfare,” explains that while all Christians are involved in spiritual warfare, not all are called to engage with high-level demons. He uses the analogy of Navy SEAL Team Six to illustrate that some Christians are specially gifted for strategic level warfare (dealing with dominions and thrones), while most are not. He cautions that if you are asking whether you are called to this type of ministry, then you are most likely not called . However, Fish also makes it clear that even those not called to actively seek out high level demons, can be confronted by them. He uses the following stories to illustrate how this can happen:
- Gospel of Mark: Fish refers to the account in Mark 4, where Jesus and his disciples are crossing a lake and encounter a storm. He states that the Greek word used to describe Jesus rebuking the wind and waves is only used in the Bible when dealing with demons. He interprets this storm as a strategic level demonic attack intended to prevent Jesus from reaching the other side, where he would then encounter a man possessed by 6,000 demons. He states that the man, called Legion, was the host of the Dominion level spirit that had power over the Decapolis.
- Book of Daniel: Ken Fish discusses the story of Daniel in Daniel 9, where Daniel prays and the angel Gabriel is sent with an answer, but is delayed for 21 days by the “Prince of Persia”. He clarifies that this Prince of Persia is not a world spirit, but a dominion-level spirit that has control over the territory of Persia. He emphasizes that Daniel was not actively warring against the Prince of Persia, but his prayers empowered angelic armies. In this scenario, the archangel Michael and his angelic army got involved to defeat the Prince of Persia and enable Gabriel to deliver the message to Danie. Fish states that Daniel had no sense of what was going on in the spiritual realm. He concludes that Daniel was not engaging in strategic level warfare.
- Book of Isaiah: Fish references Isaiah 25, which speaks of the Lord swallowing up “the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations”. He explains that this covering is a demonic layer, like a web, over areas and cities. He relates a story of intercessors in Eastern Tennessee who could see a web or net of demonic activity over the region. This web was seen as a reason that Knoxville was considered one of the most evil cities in Tennessee. He uses this as a reason to pray for God to “rend the net” or “split the sky” to break through the demonic veil over a region. He notes that the ultimate rending will happen in the final days of battle but that regional breakthroughs can happen now. He ties this idea to praying for God to “rend the heavens and come down” to release his power and allow the gospel to go forth.
These examples highlight that while Christians may not be called to actively engage with high-level demons, they can be affected by them in their daily lives. However, it is also important to note that God is actively involved in these battles, and often sends his angelic armies to engage in the spiritual conflict on our behalf.
