How Can We Help?
Deliverance – 3 unique attributes
According to Ken Fish, deliverance is defined by three main points:
- Deliverance is a power encounter. This is not a ritual or prayer, but a confrontation with demonic forces through the power of God.
- This power is the “Finger of God,” which is the written word combined with the expressed power of the Holy Spirit.
- The authority and power are available to believers, not exclusive to Jesus.
- The power encounter is not always quiet and may include manifestations such as convulsions and loud cries as demons are forced out.
- Believers have authority over demons because of their position “below God but above the demons”
- Deliverance is the expulsion of demons. It involves physically driving out evil spirits from a person.
- The Greek word ekballo means to “thrust out” or “drive out,” and applies to sending out workers and expelling demons.
- This expulsion involves physically forcing out the demonic entity that is considered a “third-party intruder”.
- Manifestations like coughing can accompany this process.
- Demons generally do not want to leave their host.
- Deliverance is not usually silent and has a “power curve” that indicates whether a demon has been expelled or not.
- Deliverance is the most overt sign of the in-breaking kingdom of God
- When the Holy Spirit leaves a church, deliverance is the first thing to stop and the last to return.
- When someone needs deliverance, it cannot be substituted with inner healing, Bible reading, communion, or baptism.
- Deliverance is the literal ejection of evil spirits.
- Deliverance can be a tool for evangelism and can validate the preaching of the gospel by demonstrating the power of God
