Arm healed with persistent prayer.
Ken Fish recounts the story of a man with a paralyzed arm to illustrate the importance of persistent prayer. This man, a former broccoli harvester, had severed nerves in his arm 25 years prior, rendering it mostly useless. Despite having received prayer from many people, he had not experienced healing.
When Ken Fish and his team visited a drug rehab center in Tasmania, this man requested prayer for his arm. Fish, recalling the teachings in Luke 11, decided to pray for the man twenty times before giving up. The first few prayers yielded no results, but Fish persisted, despite the man’s growing skepticism. After the tenth prayer, the man reported tingling in his hand. Subsequent prayers led to increased mobility until he could raise his arm. However, one finger remained unhealed.
The following day, after twenty more prayers, Fish and his team prayed for him again. This time, his finger came into full compliance and the man was completely healed. This experience highlights the teaching that breakthrough often requires persistent prayer, echoing Jesus’s instruction to “ask and keep on asking, seek and keep on seeking, knock and keep on knocking”. The narrative demonstrates that healing may not be instantaneous and that consistent engagement with God is often necessary.
The story emphasizes the concept of “impudence” or “importunity” in prayer, a boldness that comes from a close relationship with God. It demonstrates that while friendship may not compel God to answer a prayer, persistence will. The man’s healing was not simply a one-time event but a process that required Fish to continue praying, even when it seemed futile.
